A testament to the quality of design, materials and workmanship, are the countless 100 year old Mason & Hamlin grand pianos which are still producing vibrant tones due to the massive build quality of these instruments. I am hoping to hear from owners and/or familiar users as to their longer term appraisal of the bass quality of the Model A versus the 6'2" - 6'4" range of competition. The attention to detail in the workmanship is evident visually, sonically and mechanically. While we have a large inventory of Mason & Hamlin pianos in the process of being. Vintage Mason & Hamlin pianos are considered by many to be the finest Mason & Hamlin pianos ever built, they are generally priced about 20 less than comparable new models. To me, it seems to measure up to some of the shorter 6'+ pianos in terms of bass volume and dynamics, but perhaps falls short on the sustain and "purr" in the lower-most notes compared to the longer pianos. The 'Reeder Piano' rebuilt Mason & Hamlin piano is a well-known and remarkable piano. Sales talk and some of what I have read on forums suggests that Mason & Hamlin's larger soundboard area for their piano sizes give them this quality. For a 5'8" piano it is our impression that it does play "bigger" in the bass, and we like that with its more practical size. Mason and hamlin model a price new serial number#
The serial number is 15507, which makes it a 1905 vintage. We've tried quite a few, and the Mason & Hamlin Model A has definitely had its appeal in terms of tone and touch. (En-US) Model A Mason & Hamlin Piano Company, Mason & Hamlin. My sister and I have to sell our beloved grand piano because our mother is moving and we cant take it (small apartments). We are on the hunt for a grand piano for my wife, she being the player and I being the audience/appreciator.
